The term facial skin care is more of a matter of discipline than anything else in fact skin care is something you need to do rather than should do, if you want your skin to be clean and healthy. Skin care should comprise of the following steps; cleaning, toning, exfoliating and moisturizing. Cleaning is the first step in a skin care routine this helps to remove pollutants, oils, dirt and other components which prevents damage to your skin. For the most part cleansing should be done twice a day (unless otherwise noted by your doctor or skin care specialist) once in the morning and once at night. If you can't do it two times a day at least do it at night, especially if you wear makeup so that the ingredients in the makeup doesn't stay on your face all night long, this can lead to clogged pores and to acne.

However, if you choose to partake in the two times daily routine it's a good idea to use the complete skin care process in the morning; cleansing, toning, exfoliating, moisturizing. Toning is the next step but can be made optional if you cleanse your face good enough because toning is another optional process for cleansing the skin of dirt, grease and excess cleanser. Rather than making it part of your everyday facial skin care routine, you can use toning from time to time like when you have been exposed to particularly harsh environment/pollution. Exfoliation is necessary at least once a week depending on your type of skin because exfoliating is a part of replenishing the skin cells. This process helps in removing dead skin cells that block your pores.

However, excessive or harsh exfoliation can cause damage to your skin; so you need to balance it out. Moisturizing is one of the most important attributes to any facial care routine and prevent your skin from getting too dry. Some moisturizers even an include an SPF which will protect your skin from the sun. Dry skin is really unwanted since it causes the upper layer skin to break, leading to dead skin cells. You can use light upward strokes to make the moisturizer more effective. Moisturizers work the best when applied on warm and damp skin. Besides the aforementioned routine you should also follow the following exercises as well:

- Use proper makeup remover instead of just washing it away with water, if need be you can use regular soap just be sure that it's something more natural because this can cause irritants to your skin, but obviously everyone's skin is different!

- When choosing skin care products, be sure to pay special attention to your skin type. It's usually a good idea to ask a makeup specialist about something like this if your not sure what skin type you have.

- Before using any type of skin care product that you haven't used before, it's a good idea to test it out beforehand by placing a small dab of it elsewhere such as your wrist to make sure that it doesn't irritate or burn your skin.

- When cleansing, toning, exfoliating or Moisturizing it's important not to "rub" your skin too hard, especially around the jaw line and your eyes this can lead to wear and tear in the future!

In fact, it's better to dab rather than rub, especially around the eyes.

- And lastly, when using any sort of a makeup, lotion, or moisturizer be sure that it does include an SPF even if it's something really low so that you can have protection against the sun which could cause skin damage among other things.
